In a quirk of fate the two cup final teams meet days before the final at The Hawthorns.  Reporter F. G. Walters of the Sheffield Independent makes the following prophetic comments on the match, stating that "Wednesday have some advantage over Albion in staying power" and "if the teams are level in the 2nd half, Wednesday will probably be able to dictate the course of the game afterwards".  Of course Wednesday score two late goals to win the final.  Walters also comments on the debut of 17 year old Jacky Robinson, stating "let me say here and now that if Wednesday have not unearthed a star forward of the future, I am sadly mistaken".
