SEASON DETAIL - 1922-1923

Wednesday keep their slim promotion hopes alive until early April.  With fourteen wins and just four defeats the home form is good enough for promotion, but Wednesday win just four matches away from Hillsborough.  They finish the season in 8th place, five point adrift of West Ham, who are promoted along with Champions Notts County.  Incidentally West Ham reach the FA Cup final and are defeated by Bolton Wanderers in what has come to be known as the "White Horse Final" as an estimated 300,000 supporters gain attendance to the first ever football match at Wembley Stadium.

In the FA Cup Wednesday beat Lancashire Combination side New Brighton in the 3rd round and local rivals Barnsley in the 4th round, both matches being at Hillsborough, before losing to Derby County at the Baseball Ground in the 5th round.
