The match is the first home match of the season and the new South Stand is officially opened to the public.  Although the seats are in place, the roof isn't finished and tarpaulins are stretched over the roof skeleton in the centre of the stand so those who paid 1s. 6d. to sit in the centre are covered in the event of bad weather.  Uncovered seats are priced at 1s.  The match is the first at the newly renamed stadium, the Directors changing the name from Owlerton Stadium to "The Wednesday Stadium, Hillsborough" to coincide with the opening of the stand.
