Wednesday's 1st season in the Football League, joining the 1st Division after the Football Alliance was merged with the Football League.

In Wednesday's first season they get off to a good start and are 3rd in early January after thrashing Manchester United 5-1 at North Road and West Brom 6-0 at Olive Grove.  Unfortunately Wednesday lose seven straight matches and pick up just one point in ten matches.  Thankfully they win the last match of the season against Notts County to avoid having to take part in the dreaded test matches.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday play Derby County three times in the 1st round, replays being ordered after both teams protest about ineligable players.  They beat Burnley in the 2nd round at Olive Grove but are defeated by Everton at Goodison Park in the 3rd round.
