Season DETAIL - 1937-1938

After getting relegated the previous season, Wednesday get off to a terrible start in the 2nd Division, winning just two of the first fourteen matches and with Wednesday bottom of the League, manager Billy Walker tenders his resignation.  The various directors of the club assume the responsibility of caretaker manager and results improve.  Jimmy McMullan takes over in January and a poor run sees them in 21st place again by the end of March.  In a tight finish with half a dozen clubs fighting to avoid relegation, a run of five wins in the last eight matches sees Wednesday finish in 17th place, just two points above Barnsley, who are relegated on goal average along with Stockport County.
