After a decent run of results, Wednesday are 4th by Christmas.  They sign Eddie Kilshaw for £20,000 in a bid to boost their promotion ambitions but unfortunately they are terribly inconsistent the rest of the season.  Despite signing Eddie Gannon for £15,000 in March, Wednesday win just three of the last fifteen matches to finish the season in 8th place, 13 points behind West Bromwich Albion who finish 2nd.

In the FA Cup Wednesday beat Southampton in the 3rd round before losing to 1st Division Champions elect Portsmouth.
