Wednesday are beaten finalists in the FA Cup.

After finishing 8th the previous season, Wednesday struggle for consistency throughout the season and finish a disappointing 17th.

Wednesday reach the FA Cup final for the first time since they won the cup in 1935.  Remarkably Wednesday play away in every round beating 1st Division teams Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea on the road to Wembley.  They are 2-0 up against Everton in the final but tragically lose 3-2 as Everton become only the 2nd team to win the cup from two goals behind without needing extra time.

For the sixth season running, Wednesday decline to enter the Football League Cup (now EFL Cup).

Substitutes are allowed for the first time this season.  They are only to be used to replace an injured player.
