In the first season back in the top tier, Wednesday have an excellent season finishing 5th in the League, six points behind champions Burnley and reach the FA Cup semi-final.  Wednesday get off to an inconsistent start and are 14th in early November but they only lose four of the remaining twenty six matches to finish in 5th.  They might have finished higher but only win one of the final five matches.

In the run to the FA Cup semi-final, Wednesday win at Old Trafford in the 5th round and at Bramall Lane in the 6th round before losing narrowly to Blackburn Rovers at Maine Road, Manchester.
