Wednesday are runners-up in the 1st Division championship to Tottenham Hotspur, who win the Football League and FA Cup "double"

A fantastic season for Wednesday is tempered by losing manager Harry Catterick, with four matches of the season to go.  Catterick joins Everton and Eric Taylor is caretaker for the final four matches - three of which Wednesday lose.

Wednesday reach the 6th round of the FA Cup beating 2nd Division Leeds United in the 3rd round before facing Manchester United in the 4th round.  The home tie finishes 1-1 but in the replay at Old Trafford Wednesday stun the 65,000 crowd by thrashing United 7-2!  Wednesday finally lose to Burnley in the 6th round after a draw at Hillsborough.

The Football League Cup (now the EFL Cup) is inagurated this season but a number of "big clubs" decline to enter, including Wednesday.
