In a mixed season for Wednesday as they finish just below mid-table.  They are 5th in the League by Christmas, but they go ten matches without a win followed a couple of matches later by four successive defeats and then five matches unbeaten!

In the EFL Cup 2nd round Wednesday play 4th Division (tier 4) Stockport County.  Wednesday win the home leg 3-0 and County decide to play the "home" leg at Maine Road Manchester in the hope of attracting a big gate.  In the end the attendance is just 2,089 to see Wednesday win 7-0 and clinch the tie 10-0 on aggregate!

In the FA Cup Wednesday are held to draw by 3rd Division (tier 3) Chester City but win the replay and beat 1st Division West Ham United before losing to Coventry City in the 6th round.
