Wednesday finish 3rd in the 1st Division, their highest Football League Finishing Position to date.

Following promotion and the resignation of Ron Atkinson, Wednesday turn to player Trevor Francis, who is initially player-manager.  Francis inherits a great team and Wednesday finish 3rd in the League, their best position since 1961.  Wednesday have some great away performances including wins at Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa.  They also manage to lose 7-1 to Arsenal at Highbury and 6-1 to Leeds United at Hillsborough!
