Wednesday are inaugural members of the Premier League and are beaten finalists in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup. Wednesday also take part in the UEFA cup.
After finishing in 3rd place the previous season, hopes were high for the season and Wednesday didn't disappoint, reaching the final of the EFL Cup and FA Cup. Wednesday are 4th in the League by March. but the cup campaigns seem to affect League form and Wednesday can only finish 7th.
The EFL and FA Cup campaigns were memorable with Wednesday playing at Wembley four times. Wednesday famously meet Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final. The match is originally scheduled to be played at Elland Road, Leeds but fan pressure forces the FA to move the tie to Wembley and 75,000 Sheffielders see Wednesday win 2-1. Sadly Wednesday are beaten in the EFL Cup final by Arsenal and in some ways that puts more pressure on the FA Cup where Wednesday once again play Arsenal. The first match end in a 1-1 draw and the replay is once again 1-1 going into extra time. The match looks to be going to penalties until Andrew Linighan scores in the very last minute to break Wednesday fan's hearts.
Wedneday's UEFA Cup campaign is derailed as David Hirst is sent off in Kaiserslautern and Wednesday lose 3-1. They can't overturn the deficit in the home leg.
