Wednesday are in the top four for much of the season but nine defeats in the final fourteen matches sees them slip to a 5th place finish for the second season running.  Wednesday's fifteen home wins is the best in the League but just two away wins, the joint worst with bottom club Leicester City, is the reason they don't place higher.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday thrash 2nd Division Stoke City in the 1st round but can only draw with Southern League Portsmouth in Wednesday's first ever visit to Fratton Park.  They beat Pompey at Hillsborough but are defeated by 2nd Division Glossop North End at Hillsborough in the 3rd round.
