Wednesday are 2nd Division Championship for the 1st time in their history and are promoted to the 1st Division. 

After being relegated the previous season and having to quit Olive Grove, Wednesday bounce back as 2nd Division Champions.  Wednesday play their first ever match at Hillsborough on the opening day of the season.  Chesterfield's Herbert Munday scores the first ever goal at Hillsborough, but Wednesday win the match 5-1.  Wednesday win all seventeen League matches at Hillsborough to run out 2nd Division Champions.  Wednesday's twenty-four wins and fifty-four points totals are both records for the 2nd Division.

In the FA Cup Wednesday beat Bolton in the 1st round before losing to local rivals Sheffield United at Hillsborough after the first match at Bramall Lane was abandoned and the 2nd match drawn.  Therefore United become the first team ever to beat Wednesday at Hillsborough, although Wednesday are the first team to defeat United this season in a match at Bramall Lane on Boxing Day.
