Season DETAIL - 1951-1952

Wednesday are 2nd Division (Tier 2) champions for the 3rd time in their history and are promoted to the 1st Division (Tier 1).

After a disappointingly inconsistent start to the season, including losing 7-3 at Bramall Lane and 5-3 at home to Rotherham United, Wednesday are actually in 17th place by the end of September.  On the 6th October Wednesday beat Barnsley, Derek Dooley getting his first start of the season and scoring both goals.  Dooley is the catalyst as Wednesday go on a run of only one defeat in thirteen matches, which sees them in the top three.  A final run of eleven matches without defeat including seven wins propels Wednesday to the Championship, beating Cardiff city by two points.  Wednesday score exactly 100 goals with Derek Dooley scoring a remarkable 46 League goals in just 30 appearances.

Wednesday lose to 3rd Division Bradford Park Avenue in the FA Cup 3rd round.
