Wednesday's first season back in the top flight is a decent one.  Wednesday go on a 12 match unbeaten run between the end of November and the beginning of March and only lose one match in seventeen, leaving them in 5th place.  However a blip at the end with four defeats out of five matches sees Wednesday slip to a final position of 8th.

In the EFL Cup Wednesday beat 1st Division Luton Town in round 4, with Andy Blair scoring a hat-trick of penalties, before taking on Chelsea in round 5.  The teams draw 1-1 at Stamford Bridge and 4-4 at Hillsborough in a remarkable match.  Chelsea win the toss and the 2nd replay is at Stamford Bridge and Wednesday finally succumb 2-1.
