Wednesday are relegated to Division 1 (Tier 2).

After finishing in mid-table the previous season, the season starts terribly with Wednesday losing eight out of the first nine matches.  Unfortunately they never recover and are in the bottom two the whole season.  Danny Wilson's sacking is inevitable and Peter Shreeves takes over as caretaker manager with nine matches to go but can't prevent Wednesday being relegated by three points.

Wednesday are knocked out of the EFL Cup in the 4th round by 1st Division (tier 2) Bolton Wanderers and are dumped out of the FA Cup in the 5th round by Division 2 (tier 3) Gillingham.
