Season DETAIL - 1957-1958

Wednesday are relegated to the 2nd Division (Tier 2) for the third time in eight seasons.

In a hugely disappointing season Wednesday fail to win an away League match all season and are relegated to the 2nd Division.  Despite winning two of the last three matches, Wednesday finish bottom, just a point behind the 19th and 20th placed teams, Newcastle United and Portsmouth who stay up.  The Wednesday board decide to advertise for a new manager and Eric Taylor becomes club secretary.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday beat Southern League Hereford United and 3rd Division Hull City before losing to Manchester United in the 5th round.  The tie is United's first fixture since the Munich air disaster.  A makeshift United team containing two survivors, seven reserves and two newly-signed players are carried to victory on a wave of emotion from the nearly 60,000 crowd.
