The 3rd and last season of the Football Alliance as the league is merged with the Football League.  A 2nd Division of the Football League is added and teams from the Alliance are elected to either the 1st or 2nd divisions, with the exception of Birmingham St. George's who were disbanded at the end of the season due to financial problems.

After finishing bottom the previous season, Wednesday have a much better season, finishing 4th.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday beat 1st Division Bolton Wanderers and Small Heath (Birmingham City) before losing in the 3rd round to 1st Division West Brom.
