Although they get the season off to a spectacular start, Wednesday are inconsistent and a winless run of six matches see them in 10th place by Boxing Day.  However Wednesday return to form and lose just twice in the last ten matches to finish in 3rd place for the second season running.  Ultimately eleven away defeats costs Wednesday.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday beat 2nd Division Spurs after a replay in the 3rd round and thrash 3rd Division Bournemouth in the 4th round before losing to Chelsea after a replay in the 5th round.
