Season DETAIL - 1930-1931

After back to back Football League Championships, Wednesday have a good season with some big wins including a 9-1 record League win over Birmingham City and seven-goal defeats of Sunderland and Blackpool.  Wednesday's points total of 52 points was enough to win the Championship in 1928-29 and last season Wednesday's 60 point total brought them another Championship.  Arsenal's record total of 66 points, losing just four matches all season, is therefore exceptional and they finish seven points clear of Aston Villa in 2nd and a whopping 14 points ahead of Wednesday in 3rd.  Wednesday's cause isn't helped by losing their inspirational captain Jimmy Seed to injury.  Seed misses sixteen League matches and Wednesday win just five of those matches.

As Football League Champions Wednesday take part in the FA Charity Shield, losing to FA Cup winners Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday beat 3rd Division Gateshead (formerly known as South Shields) in the 3rd round before losing to local rivals 2nd Division Barnsley in the 4th round.
