After a winless run of seven matches in the New Year and one win in the last five matches, Wednesday clinch promotion by drawing with Champions Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 in the final match.  Wednesday, Sheffield United and Southampton all finish on 52 points but Wednesday have a superior goal average of just 0.008 from Sheffield United - one of the smallest margins ever.  Interestingly, had the final match finished 1-1 both local rivals would have finished on the same points and goal average and a play-off match would have had to be played to determine who was promoted!  Under current goal difference rules United would have been promoted as they scored one more goal than Wednesday, the goal differences being equal.
