After being promoted as Champions the previous season, this one is largely about consolidation.  Wednesday only win two of the opening ten matches, leaving them in 15th, but one defeat in the next nine matches sees them climb to 7th by the end of November and then 6th.  Wednesday win fifteen home watches, losing just three, but do not win a single away match, losing fifteen of them and finish the season in 16th, nine points clear of the relegation zone.

In the FA Cup Wednesday beat 3rd Division Brighton in the 3rd round before losing to 2nd Division Gateshead (then known as South Shields) in a replay after drawing at Hillsborough.
