SEASON DETAIL - 1914-1915

With war being declared on the 4th August 1914, there are repeated calls for the season to be abandoned.  However the Football League resist the calls and the season runs to completion, before suspending the League until 1919-1920.  Wednesday have a good season and are in the top five for much of the season.  A 7-0 defeat of Bolton Wanderers see them go top in March, but just two wins in the final ten matches sees them finish in a disappointing 7th place.  Everton win four of their final five matches, drawing the other to snatch the Championship by just a point from Oldham and three points ahead of the chasing pack of five clubs, including Wednesday, who have the worst goal averge of the top seven.

Wednesday donate a portion of home gate receipts to the War Fund and soldiers are admitted free into Hillsborough.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday beat Manchester United and 2nd Division Wolves before being beaten by Newcastle United at Hillsborough in the 3rd round.
