In the final season before World War One Wednesday have a good season and are in the top five for much of the season.  A 7-0 defeat of Bolton Wanderers see them go top in March, but just two wins in the final ten matches sees them finish in a disappointing 7th place.

In the FA Cup, Wednesday beat Manchester United and 2nd Division Wolves before being beaten by Newcastle United at Hillsborough in the 3rd round.
