Season DETAIL - 1963-1964

Wednesday are devastated as David Layne, Peter Swan and former player Tony Kay are convicted of match fixing and are banned for life by the FA.  Sensationally manager Vic Buckingham is sacked with 2 matches of the season to go with Wednesday in the top 6.  Although he wasn't believed to be involved in the match fixing scandle, his apparent lax attitude to player's discipline may have been a factor in his dismissal.

Wednesday are humiliated in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, losing to 4th Division Newport County at Somerton Park.

For the fourth season running, Wednesday decline to enter the Football League Cup (now EFL Cup).

Wednesday take part in the Fairs Cup for the second time, beating Dutch team DOS Utrecht 4-1 in both legs of the 1st round, but lose both matches against German side FC Köln.
