In the second season of Wartime competition the leagues are reorganised and Wednesday play in the thirty-four team North Regional League. The matches are still regionalised and therefore clubs in the league don't neccessarily play each other. In practice teams play a widely differing number of matches, Newcastle United playing as little as twenty-three matches due to the club's location, while Bury play a whopping thirty-eight matches.
Strangely the final league positions are determined by goal average, then points followed by goals scored in the event of ties. This doesn't really help Wednesday, who's poor goal average results in a 31st place finish with consecutive 7-1 defeats not helping! Wednesday actually finish the lowest of the 2nd Division teams taking part, with Sheffield United finishing lowest of the 1st Division teams in 25th place.
With Wednesday being in the bottom six at the end of January they have to play in the preliminary round of the League War Cup and are surprisingly thrashed 7-1 in the in the first leg by 3rd division York City. Of course they cannot overturn the six-goal margin in the 2nd leg and go out of the competition at the first hurdle.
