Wednesday once again get the season off to a slow start but lose just two matches out of ten to climb to 7th. Unfortunately they have a run of seven defeats in eight matches and although they win all their remaining home matches, they lose all of the away matches and finish is a disappointing 13th. Wednesday fail to win a single away match all season, including the subsidiary competion.
Leeds City win the League, losing just two of their thirty matches. It's something of surprise as they were a 2nd Division club before the outbreak of WW1. Following the conclusion of the war the club was accused of financial irregularities, including breaking the ban on paying players during the war. That led to the club being expelled from The Football League eight games into the 1919–20 season and the forced dissolution of the club, which led to the formation of Leeds United shortly after.
Chesterfield Town (as they were known) were also subject to an FA inquiry after this season with club officials being suspended from football management and the club shut down. It reformed as Chesterfield FC in 1919.
